The Suspensions of Import Duty Rates

The Below Information Was Published: 22nd December 2020

On 16th December 2020 it was confirmed that the UK will roll over all existing duty suspensions we currently have in place as members of the EU.

The UK will also turn existing autonomous tariff quotas (which suspend duty up to a certain volume of imports) into straight suspensions of tariff rates down to 0%, except for ones on fish and sugar.  Autonomous Tariff Quotas (ATQs) are temporary reductions in import tariffs on 100's of products with insufficient domestic production to meet demand.

The full list which includes a number of chemicals and plastics can be seen here

These suspensions will apply to imports from all countries, regardless of whether the UK has a preferential arrangements with those countries or not.

The Government press release on the matter can be found HERE (the section on suspensions is at the bottom of the article).
