To design a Child resistant closure for toilet cleaning products with a target weight saving if 40%

Brief Description

Our brief was to redesign a successful Squeeze and Turn Angle neck Bleach cap and to maintain the necessary CRC (Child resistant closure) mechanical performance of the original double walled design by introducing a single walled version.

The challenge was to attain the necessary squeeze force when designing the single walled closure to achieve ISO accreditation  and UCP designed a patented solution to meet the design and functional brief.

The novelty was the incorporation of “windows” in the closure side wall to achieve the desired result .

The target of 40% weight reduction was achieved along with the required ISO 8317 :2003  CRC accreditation.

Additionally, the moulding cycle was reduced significantly leading to significant energy savings and a much improved Carbon footprint.
