'Top-level BPF Staff Retirements'

The President of the British Plastics Federation, Mike Boswell, has informed the BPF Council and Staff that the Director-General Peter Davis OBE and the Finance and Administration Director Alan Davey both wish to retire from the BPF in a year’s time, at the end of June 2014.

Mike Boswell said “Peter and Alan have given sterling service to the BPF and industry.  Although a year away it is important we have a plan for finding their successors”.

The President said that Council had set up an Appointments Panel, chaired by himself, to undertake this task.

1. Peter Davis OBE FRSA was appointed BPF Director-General in October 1997.  Before that he was the Chief Executive of Incpen (The Industry Council for Packaging and the Environment) from October 1993 – September 1997.

He has previously held the following positions: Director of Marketing; Membership and International Affairs at the Royal Institute of British Architects; Head of Home Affairs in the Conservative Research Department; Special Adviser to Environment Secretary Kenneth Baker MP.

Prior to this he held marketing positions with: Dylon International, 3M and Metal Box.  He was leader of the Opposition on Lambeth Council 1982-84 and was awarded the OBE for public and political services in 1993.

Peter Davis is the Chairman of the Alliance of Industry Associations (AIA); Deputy Chairman of the Enterprise Forum; member of EuPC’s Steering Committee; member of the Materials KTN’s Polymer Advisory Board; member of DEFRA’s Chemicals Stakeholder Forum, member of BIS’s Chemical Regulatory Forum; member of the Packaging Federation Council and Construction Product’s Association Trades Council; and Sponsor, Plastics 2020 Challenge.

2. Alan Davey came to the BPF in 2004 with a strong manufacturing background acquired predominantly in life sciences and the chemical sectors.

He previously held director- level finance and procurement positions in Aventis Pharma, Rhone-Poulenc and Cyanamid GB Ltd.

His international experience was complemented by having lived and worked in Paris and Frankfurt.

During his ten years as Director of Finance and Administration at the BPF Alan has led initiatives to diversify the Federation's range of activities and strengthening its financial position. Achievements of particular note have been developing the plastics sector climate change agreement, leasing unused space in BPF House and a drive for funded R & D projects.      

Alan is a Fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and the Chartered Global Management Accountants.

3. The British Plastics Federation (BPF) is the UK trade association for the plastics industry – representing the whole supply chain including polymer producers, distributors, additives suppliers, machinery manufacturers, processors and recyclers.
