Vietnamese Minister and Delegation Visit BPF
Thursday, 8 November 2012
The uniquely close relationship between the British Plastics Federation and the Vietnam Plastics Association was strengthened yesterday by the visit to the BPF of Madame Ho Thi Kim Thoa, Vice Minister of Industry and Trade, and Mr Ho Duc Lam, Chairman of the Vietnam Plastics Association.
The Vietnamese delegation of six people were warmly welcomed by BPF President, Philip Watkins and Director-General, Peter Davis.
The BPF had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Vietnam Plastics Association in Ho Chi Minh City in 2010 and regularly takes British companies to Plastics Fairs in the Far East.
Peter Davis said “Vietnam has a population of 87 million and a very young, low cost labour force. Domestic consumption increases each year by 17%. This, together with the challenges faced by the Vietnamese industry such as securing greater environmental awareness and greater production efficiencies, spells out many opportunities for British companies.”
BPF President Philip Watkins presented them with a copy of the BPF’s document “The UK Plastics Industry: A Strategic Manufacturing Sector,” adding that “the Vice Minister and Mr Lam were most interested in how we had positioned our Plastics Industry as a key strategic component in our manufacturing economy''.
