Why should all BPF Members sign up for SIMPL

Many BPF Members have already signed up for SIMPL (Safety In Manufacturing PLastics), an initiative developed to reduce the incidence of accidents and ill-health in the UK Plastics Industry. We have asked a couple of them to explain in a few words why they value SIMPL and why they believe all BPF Members should sign up to it.

Alan Brown of Amaray, the new chair of the BPF IHSC says: ” BPF Members would be advised to sign up to SIMPL because the use of the guidelines and the audit tools will help them to comply with the current legislation. Moreover, the HSE will view it as being proactive instead of reactive to reduce the accident rate and injuries to our employees

As a SIMPL member, the BPF accident survey enables me to benchmark my organisations accident performance against the performance of other members. The survey is a reliable indicator of safety performance, is available quickly compared to other accident surveys and reflects in simple terms the trends in accident causation.” says Mike Jones, of Distrupol.

Michael Stegeman of RPC Promens says RPC puts safety first in everything that we do, our involvement in the BPF safety committee and being part of SIMPL has complemented our efforts in further improving the safety of our workforce.  The SIMPL audit tool has been invaluable in helping us to identify areas for improvement and to prioritise those areas

SIMPL has been developed by the British Plastics Federation in partnership with fellow industry trade associations, employers organisations, trade unions, HSE and training organisations including PAFA, Composites Uk, Unite..

The new cycle of the SIMPL initiative will run over three years from 2014 to 2017, bringing together all parts of the industry in a bid to stimulate progress on on accident and ill-health reduction across the board.
