JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. These US bound copies are extremely rare and prized on any bookshelf. They also come with a lovely slipcase and all three books are protected in removable mylar covers.

All three copies have excellent / original maps at the back and none of the dust jackets have been price clipped. The Fellowship of the Ring is a first printing and shows the year'1954' on the title page - only first printings show this. The original dust jacket is also a first printing: the ascender is clipped on the'd' in'Frodo' on the tenth line of the blurb on the lower flap. There were only 1500 copies printed.

There is no writing in the book and the dust jacket shows very well indeed. The map is also at the back of the book. The Two Towers is a second printing book and dust jacket.

The dust jacket shows the stripe defect - white stripe to the top and bottom of the dust jacket. The copy reads "fire and flood" on Pg. 118, line 39 and has all of the other text criteria that makes it a second printing; for example, Pg. 104, line 32 reads'say:' and the colon was removed for the third printing. There were only a scarce 1210 copies printed of this second printing (and only 1000 of the first printing) and this is a nice example; there is some soiling and chipping to the dj, but it shows quite well.

The Return of the King is a first printing; like The Fellowship of the Ring it shows the year (1956) on the title page. It has the sloping text on Page 49 as well. 5000 copies were made of the first issue.

Of the three volumes, The Return of the King has the most chipping to the dust jacket, but it still shows better than most available copies. With Amazon Prime throwing big dollars into The Lord of the Rings TV streaming series, and multiple seasons already settled upon, the desire for these "precious" books will only rise in the near future. I will package these with the greatest of care. If you have any specific questions, I will do my best to answer.
