The Lord of the Rings. Including The Fellowship of the Ring The Two Towers The Return of the King. Folding map in each volume. Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1954-56. First US Editions, first printings in the original dust jackets. Each book with the all important year (1954, 1955, 1956) printed on the title page. The second, and all subsequent printings of each volume lack this identifying point. The Fellowship of the Ring.

Boards with some spotting to the covers and spine. Jacket without price to front flap as required. One small chip to the top of the spine. A bit of soiling to the front panel. Chip and corresponding area of wear to the top of the spine as pictured.

Rubbing to the front and rear panel of the jacket. Very faint date stamp to ffep.

The rarest of the three volumes. The Return of the King. Light wear to the extremities of the jacket, else Near Fine. A very attractive set of Tolkien's epic trilogy.
